At Putnam North Family Medical Center the medical
providers, in conjunction with the behavioral health providers are
trained to properly diagnosis the entire range of behavioral and
learning problems and treat conditions such as ADHD, autism and
Oppositional Defiant Disorder. In addition, the behavioral health team
is available to help with parenting coaching. This unique approach to
primary healthcare integrates primary medical care with primary
behavioral healthcare to provide a seamless support for medical,
behavioral, emotional, social, academic and family problems. Licensed
Clinical Psychologist duties include treating clients in this
multi-disciplinary setting. Treatment includes individual therapy with
minors, family therapy, full psychological evaluations, and Parent Child
Interaction Therapy (PCIT). Treatment typically involves evidence based
techniques taught in a developmentally appropriate manner and when
appropriate caregivers are encouraged to participate in collateral
sessions and/or treatment sessions. Duties also include meeting
regularly with other treatment providers and completing assessments,
treatment plans, and progress notes, as well as, any documents required
for insurance.

A Better Way in a non-profit mental health agency
serving clients between the ages of zero and 21 years and their families
who represent a broad range of socioeconomic statuses, cultures, and
ethnicities. Most clients were or are currently in the Child Protective
Services system. Client’s mental health problems are typically related
to past and current attachment difficulties; substance abuse by clients
and/or their caregivers; physical, emotional, and sexual abuse; neglect;
and other traumatic experiences. Services are conducted in the clinic
and in client’s homes, schools, and communities. Clients are billed
under county funding sources, which require clinicians to participate in
a Quality Assurance Process that includes peer review of files and
treatment plans.

goals and implementing these techniques; and aiding staff during intake

Behavioral Health Trainee •

Behavioral Health Trainee’s were responsible for
conducting weekly sessions of Second Step (a violence prevention
program), As I Am (identifying feelings and developing empathy program),
and DRIP (program helps child develop self-esteem and leadership skills)
in two classes of primarily Mexican-American students who were
monolingual Spanish or bilingual. After consultation with the site
team, trainee’s identified “target children” who were at risk for
behavioral health problems, performed structured observations, and used
play therapy techniques with target children. Trainee’s participated in

management meetings. Trainees were expected to complete 6 hours of
